To date, the only news we have been getting regarding the bingo hall smoking ban has been negative, the nay-sayers are all talking about the affect that the ban has had on the revenues of land based bingo businesses and no-one has yet spoken a bout the positive effects of the smoking ban.
It has come to light in the Belfast Telegraph that a North West bingo hall has discovered that their members are all for the smoking ban. While it was believed that the ban would affect bingo badly, with 75% of Northern Ireland's bingo players smoking three times as much as the national average. Eight months after the ban came into place, Strand Bingo in Londonderry has discovered that the majority of their players prefer the non-smoking environment, in fact in a poll conducted on their members, 87% were all for the change.
The Strand Bingo took an unusual approach to the ban and re-educated their patrons by offering them guidance and referring them to the Western Health and Social Service Board, to advise them how to obtain aids to kick the habit. The proprietor of the bingo hall is "pleasantly surprised" by the results of the poll.
