UK Land Based Bingo Is Definitely Suffering

In the past three years more than 100 land based bingo clubs in the UK have closed down with more than twelve closing down in the last five months. Large bingo chains have reported struggling to make profits and this appears to have been blames on government imposed political and economic constraints.

Despite the fact that research has been done that tells us there are serious social consequences in the closure of bingo clubs, the UK Government seems completely apposed to any changes in the rulings it has unfairly imposed on land based bingo clubs.

The worst thing about bingo club closures is the fact that most of the people suffering are the aged, women in particular who find that after having played bingo regularly for years, they find that the bingo club actually becomes part of their close community.

Although people do play bingo for the chance to win huge prize, the majority of players engage in the game because it gets them out of the house to see old friends and meet new ones. When a bingo club is closed down, there might not be another one for miles and these lonely and aged people lose this very valuable social interaction.
